Sometimes when you see an awesome flight deal you just need to book it! I was able to put together a sample itinerary from Oakland, CA that allows you to visit three countries in Europe. The grand total for all the flights? $460 (at the time I am writing this)
How is it so cheap?
Norwegian Air is a budget carrier based out of, you guessed it, Norway! They specialize in simply getting you from A to B. (in this case also add C and D).
Where can I travel for $460?
The sample itinerary I put together allows you to visit Stockholm, Berlin, and London. Every flight is operated by Norwegian Air.
Are there extra fees?
The only fee that you may have to pay would be for baggage. This certainly depends on how much stuff you bring on your journey. I like to travel very light so I would not have to pay for extra baggage, personally.
Norwegian allows you to bring one carry-on bag that must not exceed 21″ x 16″ x 9″. The weight limit of that bag cannot be more than 23 lbs. In addition to your carry-on bag you are allowed to bring a personal item such as a purse, laptop bag, or backpack. They don’t put a weight or size limit on your personal item, however, it must be able to fit under the seat in front of you. I recently bought the Samsonite ‘UnderSeater’. I carry it as my carry-on and also bring my backpack. Learn more about the UnderSeater here.
Okay, let’s look at the flights (using google.com/flights):
Umm, that is a lot of flying! How are the seats?
The seats of the Norwegian 787’s are not bad for a budget carrier. You get 32″ of seat pitch, that is around the same leg room as a Southwest plane. The flights within Europe do offer free WiFi so that should keep you occupied while you jump between countries.
$319 from OAK to Stockholm to OAK
$35 from Stockholm to Berlin
$32 from Berlin to London
$74 from London to Stockholm
$460 grand total. There are no visa fees to visit these countries.
