August has been a month of exciting news, most notably the slated launch of the Chase Sapphire Reserve card.
Here are some of the most notable steals and deals for the month:
Delta is having a 48 hour flash sale for award flights to Mexico and the Caribbean. All flights must be booked by midnight EDT on August 17th (tonight!). You can score a round-trip from the U.S to Mexico or the Caribbean for 22,000 plus taxes. In some cases it may make sense to use 11,000 points for a one-way and then use Pay-with-points on the return. Reason being is the return flight has departure taxes that are rather expensive, when using Pay-with-points the fees are all bundled into the price of the flight. You can toggle your payment method in the top right of the screen when you see the list of flights.
Must fly between September 6 through November 16, 2016
Starwood is offering a 20% bonus when converting SPG points into American Airline miles. Even without a promotion, Starwood offers a 5,000 point bonus when you convert 20,000 points to any number of their airline partners. With this 20% American Airline promotion you will receive an additional 5,000 points when you transfer 20,000 Starwood SPG points. That means 20,000 Starwood points will net you 30,000 American Airline miles if you transfer before September 14th! Be sure to check out American’s reduced mileage awards, you can catch a one-way to the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America for only 12,500 points one-way. Off-peak European flights will run only 22,500 miles one-way!
American Express is offering a 50% bonus when transferring your Membership Reward points to British Airways. If you transfer 1,000 MR points you will receive 1,200 British Airways Avios miles. There are some sweet-spots with British Airways because their partner redemption awards are based on the distance of the flight. For West Coast travelers, you can fly round-trip to Hawaii on American Airlines or Alaska Airlines using only 25,000 British Airways Avios. With the current transfer bonus you would only need to transfer 21,000 Amex MR points to net you 25,000 Avios which is enough for a round-trip to Hawaii from the West Coast! The one catch is that you must find non-stop options since Avios are distance based.
