Earn Double Points on Southwest Airlines Starting Now Through the Month of November

Southwest is offering double Rapid Reward points for paid flights this fall. You must book between September 1st and November 18th. You must also fly between September 1st and November 18th to earn your double points. Register here.

Keep in mind, you only earning points from flying when paid with cash. Flights paid with points do not earn you points.

Let’s look at what you can earn, DOUBLE:

Standard “Wanna Get Away” fares earn you 6x points, which means you will earn 12x points during this promotion! Remember, 6x points are calculated on the base fare before government fees and taxes. On a $274 one-way flight from Phoenix to Orlando you’d earn 2,902 points during this promotion.

Standard earning is 1,401 points. Base ticket price is $241.90 before taxes and fees. ($274 after taxes and fees)
1,401 x double bonus = 2,902 Rapid Reward points for a one-way flight.

You’d earn 2,902 points for a flight that costs $274

Southwest points are worth roughly 1.5-2¢ a piece. That means your 2,902 points earned from a $274 flight are worth about $55 towards travel! You can take a one-way flight from Phoenix to Seattle for 3,006 points, that means you’d have almost enough points just from taking your $274 flight to Orlando. Talk about free travel.

Only 3,006 points from Phoenix to Seattle one-way

Companion Pass.

Sadly, these bonus points will not qualify for Companion Pass or A List status. If you already have Companion Pass, however, look at it this way: You are earning double points for paid flights and your points are worth double with companion pass! That means a $274 flight during this promotion earns almost enough points to get two people to Seattle one-way. How cool is that?

Unfortunately flights booked prior to September 1st will not earn you double points. Also, you must register for the promotion prior to taking off, but it does not have to be prior to booking your flight. If you booked a flight prior to today, you could cancel it completely and rebook since Southwest has no cancellation penalty. Just make sure the price of the ticket has not increased before cancelling and rebooking.
