Malaysia’s budget carrier Air Asia is running a wide-spread BIG SALE on one-way flights. Flights within Malaysia start at just $3 one-way!
Air Asia to Honolulu
More good news, Air Asia X is launching a Kuala Lumpur – Osaka – Honolulu route on June 30th. This A330 route will begin in Kuala Lumpur, stop in Osaka for a few hours, then continue to Honolulu. One-way flights from Osaka to Honolulu start at $149, and if you begin in Kuala Lumpur the flight to Honolulu can be had for $178. (during this promotion)
Passengers in Kuala Lumpur can also catch a flight to Sydney, Australia for just $101 one-way. That is an 8 hour flight for $101, great deal. (be sure to check the baggage rules below)
Booking for this sale begins on March 13th and ends on March 19th. The eligible travel dates vary between destinations, you can check all routing options, here.
Watch out for baggage
As with most budget carriers, baggage is greatly limited. Cabin “carry-on” allowance is limited to a mere 15lbs. Each passenger is permitted to bring a standard carry-on bag measuring 22″ x 14″ x 9″ AND a personal item no larger than 15.7″ x 11.8″ x 4″. Again, combined carry-on weight of your two bags cannot exceed 15lbs or you could be charged to gate-check a bag. (very expensive)
Before booking, you can plug-in your origin and destination to see what the baggage fees will run you. It is always in your best interest to pay for baggage during the booking process. The longer you wait, the more it will cost you. (baggage fees link)
If you are flying from Osaka to Honolulu for $149 one-way, a checked bag weighing up to 44lbs will cost you $30.50. (3,500 Yen). If you and a traveling partner can “share” a checked bag, that is only $15 a person, not bad for a 7.5 hour flight.
